How to avoid cracks in the transportation of solar panels

Solar photovoltaic panels are subject to a variety of failures during manufacturing,transportation,setup and due to aging.The author will discuss ways to detect these failures.Solar panel failures sometimes occur during shipment from the factory on the way to the PV plant to be set up.

The main problem is that microscopic cracks are created on the solar cells(power generation elements),and as you know,there are quite a few panels where such failures occur.Cracking occurs during transportation when a certain degree of vibration or more is encountered or when an excessive load is applied.

One way to keep track of the failures that occur during shipping is to check for cracks on the cells on site at the time of delivery to the PV plant.The EL(electroluminescence)inspection method is mainly used,etc.,but it generally takes longer and costs more to do all the inspections on site.

Moreover,on-site inspection is only a response strategy.The main problem lies in the failure during transportation,and preventing the failure during transportation is the fundamental solution.

From this perspective,Solar Panel Kits manufacturers and EPC(design,procurement,and construction)service operators are the main targets,and we have begun to provide a service to prevent failures during truck transportation.Based on the delivery specifications(packaging method,loading method,and transportation route)determined by the panel manufacturer and the customer,the solar panels are packaged and loaded onto a truck for a test run on the route from the panel factory to the PV plant where they will be delivered.

Before and after the test trip,in addition to conducting EL checks on all solar panels wholesaler separately,we also measure I-V(current-voltage)characteristics,compare the results before and after the transport,verify whether the shaking during sharp turns and vibrations caused by road conditions during the transport will cause cracks in the panels,and then report to the consignor.Produce a manual for transport use and provide advice to transporters

Through the above process,we check whether there are any problems with packaging,loading,and shipping routes and methods,and create a”shipping manual”containing improvement items for the initial shipping plan,etc.,to remind the relevant shipping personnel.For example,if you pack 20 Solar monitoring camera in a single base plate and transport them by truck,you can reduce transportation costs by loading them onto the truck in two overlapping layers.However,if two layers are overlapped,the panels may fall apart during transportation,or the load may increase due to vibration,which may damage the panels.
